Brentwood Catholic Youth Services is widely regarded as the premier Youth Service in the country. Well supported by Bishop Thomas McMahon, and managed by Sarah Barber (who now works for CAFOD) it grew and developed into a fantastic organisation for young people across the diverse diocese that is Brentwood, providing opportunities for young Catholics to meet up and express their faith, investigate vocation and grow in community. Now under the leadership of Bishop Alan Williams and Youth Service Director Kevin Ferros, Brentwood Catholic Youth Service continues to grow and develop. 

Now, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to join this dynamic, exciting initiative, and become part of the Brentwood story:

MANAGER OF WALSINGHAM HOUSE

Salary: £20,500

+ Furnished self-contained two bedroom flat at Walsingham House suitable for a single person or married couple

Walsingham House is the Diocesan Youth Retreat Centre for Brentwood Diocese and is overseen by Brentwood Catholic Youth Service (BCYS). Walsingham House serves young people of East London and Essex from our schools and parishes through evangelistic based retreats from the ages 9 to 30 through peer ministry. We seek a Manager from mid-August 2015 to develop all aspects of its ministry including its financial management.

You will oversee a volunteer team of 6 to 7 young people aged 18 to 25 who undertake a year of discipleship and mission in delivering retreats. There is also a volunteer Programme Leader (subject to availability), a Housekeeper and a part time Administrator whom you will be expected to directly line manage and possibly other staff as appointed. You will be expected to lead some retreats and other youth events when required, but also to empower your team to do so.

The ideal applicant will have a proven record in the following areas:

  • Three years senior management experience
  • The management of finances, including budget setting, a knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, and the supervision of staff and volunteers
  • The planning and delivery of evangelistic retreats for young people in the 11-18 bracket
  • Applicants should be able to show considerable commitment, passion and support of the Magisterium in all areas of faith and morals. They should have a formal qualification in Theology or be willing to study towards one and a proven knowledge and lived experience of Evangelisation and Catechesis.

The aim of BCYS is “To make disciples through the Holy Eucharist and Devotion to Our Lady” and one of its goals is the renewal and consolidation of “The Culture of Discipleship and Mission at our Youth Retreat Centre”. The House is under the Patronage of Our Lady of Walsingham.

This role is required to be resident at Walsingham House and a full driving license is essential.
