Today is the feast of John the Baptist, why then are the Catholic Bishops of England & Wales pushing out a photo of a window which depicts the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ? They rightly attribute the photo to Dominican priest Father Lawrence Lew, who has had to correct the error on the Facebook version ( still up at the time of writing !): This speaks to the utter lack of Catholicity at the Bishop's Conference and their preference for employing "cultural Catholics".  "Anyone who actually believes the faith would spot all the errors" A priest once quipped to me.  It's easier to have people working for them who don't know or care much about the Catholic faith. Our Bishop here in Brentwood Diocese Alan Williams sm, appears to really be working hard on the themes he considers Pope Francis to be prioritising, e.g.: It can sometimes seem impossible to glimpse the things of heaven in today’s world. We are confronted with the needs of refugees, the appalling struggles faced by victims of trafficking, the enduring realities of war and injustice. Sometimes there has been an absence of compassion and kindness even within the community of the Church which have caused great scandal regardless of faith. Young people notice and name most acutely this mismatch between aspiration and reality. It is often our young who have been prophetic in talking about climate change and its potentially terrible consequences. In case you haven't heard yet Alabama has become the latest US state to move to restrict abortions by passing a bill to outlaw the procedure in almost all cases. The law includes a ban on abortion in cases of rape or incest. The mainstream media are reporting this in anything but an objective way and I for one never cease to be amazed at the way that questioning abortion's morality seems to be verboten in modern society. I have felt growingly uneasy that there's been no comment from the Church on this either.
