It Doesn't End With Becciu

Image
The essential questions for journalists now must be: who are Becciu's allies? Who are his supporters, his advocates, his followers? Who can he be connected to in the curia? Becciu denies interfering in Pell's trial - so where did the AUS$1M he transferred to Australia go to? Why was it sent? It needs to be laid out clearly with a full accounting! I would speculate from Beciu's reaction that he was surprised by his sudden defenestration. This would mean that however problematic his actions, he was acting with the knowledge of his superiors (Parolin & the Pope) and he is the fall guy for something...We do not know what yet (and we may never know). It is hard to see how anyone could think Becciu could have acted unilaterally here: anyone who has even a basic idea about how the Vatican works knows that he could not have blocked inspections, paid out bribes and cooked the books without full knowledge of his superiors. So what was his relationship like with Parolin? Both P...

Fratelli Tutti & Papal Hubris

Image
As the Pope promulgates another long, rambling, confusing document in which he quotes himself as the most important authority on everything again and again and again, one can only gaze with a sort of stunned incredulity of the chutzpah of a man who, less than one week after sacking the head of his own financial institutions for corruption, issues a missive to world governments on how they should be doing things. As I spend my day, working with colleagues, travelling, looking after my children, I see that I am surrounded by so many souls who do not know Jesus as well as they should: as well as they could. I deeply desire to share the joy that my faith gives me. The important knowledge about truth, beauty, honour, loyalty and integrity that have a transformative effect on one's life and relationships. The moving and comforting knowledge that Jesus died to save us from the slavery of our sin and that we do not have to simply exist: we can be more, we were created to be more! I feel ...

Pope Francis Backs The Wrong Horse....Again

Image
If you care about the Church, you're probably struggling a bit at the moment for lots of reasons. With Jorge Bergoglio at the reins as Pope Francis, it feels like a mad old parish priest well past his sell by date is running things. He doesn't care about theology, canon law, doctrine, or the effect his decisions have. He supports and promotes the UN, which has at its' heart a dubious strategy of population control . Most of his teaching seems troublingly pantheistic , and occasionally contains more than a feint whiff of direct opposition to Catholic teaching, and I quote: Today we hear the voice of creation admonishing us to return to our rightful place in the natural created order – to remember that we are part of this interconnected web of life, not its masters. #SeasonOfCreation — Pope Francis (@Pontifex) September 3, 2020 However perhaps the most troubling dimension to Jose Bergoglio's reign as the supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church is his consistent associati...

Don't Forget Farrell!

George Neumayr, author of The Political Pope and the man who famously confronted a gaggle of American Cardinals in Rome , makes an important point in The American Spectator while commenting on Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò's latest intervention. He reminds us that, although Cardinal Sandri has been chosen by the Pope to be "pilot of the next conclave secundum Franciscum " (a scandalous choice, given he is utterly compromised, having played a role in covering up the monstrous misdeeds of Marcial Maciel, the Legion of Christ founder) Pope Francis has already put another Maciel acoylyte in a position of power and influence for the next conclave: Cardinal Kevin Farrell. Farrell was promoted to camerlengo at the same time that his mentor Theodore McCarrick was defrocked. Farrell, the head of the Vatican’s office of Laity, Life and Family, was consecrated as a bishop by McCarrick in 2001 after McCarrick was installed as Archbishop of Washington. Farrell was a clos...
