Fr. Dorricott's Funeral

Fr. Dorricott

On 16th May I posted a blog asking for prayers for a beloved local priest who died earlier this month.

The live broadcast of Fr. Dorricott's Requiem Mass in Shrewsbury Cathedral can be watched here now, starting at 12:15 today.

Among many other things, Fr. Dorricott was involved in the Catenian Association, an association of Catholic men which sets out to strengthen family life through friendship and faith. The President of the Southend Circle, Paul Abbott, was at his funeral, along with many other Catenians. Paul took some pictures which I can share with you here: (bonus points if you can spot Fr. K)

Above: Bishop Tom Williams leads the final commendation:

"May the choirs of Angels come to greet you.
May they speed you to paradise.
May the Lord enfold you in his mercy.
May you find eternal life".

Outside Shrewsbury Cathedral today, Bishop Tom Williams, priests, and deacons sang in unison the Regina cæli, as Father Andrew Dorricott’s coffin was being placed into the hearse.

Regina cæli, lætare, alleluia:
Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia,
Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia,
Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.

English translation:
Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia.
For He whom thou didst merit to bear in your womb, alleluia.
Has risen, as He promised, alleluia.
Pray for us to God, alleluia.
V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
R. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.
