Dying Liverpool Abandons Everything

Image
Is it total desperation born out of the present death spiral that has led Liverpool Archdiocese to do this? Even if you don't believe in the teaching of the Bible or Christian Tradition, even if you are not offended by the blasphemy of a crucifix twisted to represent a false, modern anthropology which mirrors the fall by affirming man's subjective truth over God's revelation, even if you disregard all of that, this is intellectually and anthropologically unsound. It wasn't very long ago we, as Catholics, would not use the alphabet acronym because it affords a false anthropology which puts sexual appetite at the centre of being. Just this simple teaching is pedagogical on its own. How far have we fallen? Perhaps Archbishop McMahon should have showed up to Bishop Barron's UK visit or at least read his latest intervention on radical inclusion - he might have rediscovered what the Church actually teaches! In a diocese where only 10% of baptised Catholics, or just 55...

More Error From Dim-Witted Dominican Archbishop McMahon

Image
The sad state of the episcopacy in England and Wales, is marked by a lack of teaching, courage and anything approaching orthodoxy, and this mess seems to be summed up by the continuing errors of the Archbishop of the once great, now dying Liverpool Archdiocese. The fact that McMahon is vice president of the CBCEW tells you all you need to know about why our bishops are so utterly useless. What is particularly interesting about McMahon is that he is so vocal about a certain issue. What happens when your bishop teaches error these days? There's no succour from the Church, episcopal policy is to lie, obfuscate and ignore. So we have the media. Thank God there's some form of redress! Lifesite reports  that Fr. Mark Moran, the parish priest of St. Wilfrid’s parish in Widnes, announced in the parish newsletter March 27 that the church would be holding a Mass specifically for the “LGBTQ+ community.” Fr. Moran also asked for members of the parish to help with refreshments before a...

Liverpool — Is it Run By A Dim Dominican?

Image
Further to my recent blog about Malcolm McMahon OP, the Archbishop of dying Liverpool Archdiocese who wrote a letter mis-defining Tradition as something handed down from the Pope, a reader directed me to a letter McMahon wrote to priests which was printed in the Metropolitan Cathedral Newsletter . I have reproduced the pertinent section for readers here: The overt support for homosexual lifestyles here is quite frightening when one considers both the Cathedral Dean and the Archbishop are important members of the Catholic Church which has consistently asserted that sexual intercourse may only take place within marriage. If that is not true, or, if the unitive and procreative dimensions of intercourse are separated, the Church will have a great deal to answer for especially in terms of consistency and coherence. We will no longer be able to support Marriage, the family, or condemn fornication — as Our Lord clearly does in Sacred Scripture — or even masturbation. Perhaps these two priest...

More Abuse from Liverpool

Image
In the Archdiocese of Liverpool, only 10% of baptised Catholics, or just 55,000, now attend weekly Sunday Mass & they are mostly over 55 years of age.The problems of vocations to the priesthood & religious are a reflection of what's happening with the laity. If you want to know why things are so bad, you could look back to the genesis of the decline which began with Archbishop Worlock's episcopate . From 1976-96 the rate of practise fell from 45% to 19% such an epic slump that it even made the BBC news. With his successor, Kelly, it fell further from 19% to 9.5%. Archbishop McMahon appears to completely signed up to the agenda which has wrought so much damage in his Archdiocese promoting a wacky synod which discussed topics like the ordination of women as I reported here . It makes no sense whatsoever to me to facilitate a discussion which seeks to further the cause of an issue which has no future. The time would be much better spent teaching why the Church will not ...

Archbishop McMahon: "No more requests for this faculty will be granted"

Image
The Archbishop of Liverpool, Malcolm McMahon (aged 72) has long been touted in some circles as a Traditionalist. This may be because he invited the FSSP ( Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter see here ) to Warrington and had carried out ordinations in the Traditional Rite. It may be because he likes dressing up in the clobber: Whatever the reason, I have been very suspicious. He has always struck me as wonky. He has made some very peculiar comments about education , stating that he wants "age-appropriate sex education in all our schools" & said pregnant, unmarried teachers would be "exciting for the children". This is in direct contradiction to Vatican guidelines The Truth & Meaning of Human Sexuality which plainly teaches that it is wrong to intrude on children's natural innocence, and that sex education should not be introduced at primary school level. McMahon was the instigator, gate keeper and later the defender of LGBT infiltration of the Catholic Educ...

Archdiocese of Liverpool - A New Pastoral Council?

Image
Anyone who knows the history of the decline of the Church in this country knows much of the genesis of the present situation can be traced back to one man: Derek Worlock. Worlock was appointed private secretary to Cardinal Griffin, and assisted successive cardinal-archbishops of Westminster for almost two decades. He attended every session of the Second Vatican Council between 1962 and 1965 when he was appointed Bishop of Portsmouth on 18 October. He was eventually appointed Archbishop of Liverpool in 1976 and by Christmas, Worlock had produced a master-plan for the Archdiocese which was not well received by many of the senior clergy, so Worlock launched a charm offensive on the younger clergy—and Fr. Vincent Nichols became his young protege alongside Fr. John Furnival who was ordained in 1976 and acted as his private secretary right up until his death in 1996.  Worlock instigated what became known as "The Magic Circle", a largely self-selecting small pool of...

St. Mary's, Warrington, The grandest Roman Catholic church in Warrington and a major work by E.W. and P.P. Pugin Great news from the Archdiocese of Liverpool where the recently appointed Archbishop, the Rt Reverend Malcolm McMahon has announced a new apostolate entrusted to the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (the FSSP): From St Mary's website, Warrington : ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE ARCHBISHOP REGARDING THE FUTURE OF ST MARY’S “I have invited the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter to come to the archdiocese and to have responsibility for St Mary’s Church, Warrington.
