There's no doubt that Pope Francis has caused massive damage throughout the Catholic Church by spreading confusion, lies and misinformation, not to mention promoting seriously compromised and dangerous and abusive men to high office and facilitating liturgical travesties like the Pachamamma worship in the Vatican gardens. But by far the most unjust thing he has enacted is Traditiones custodes . Why? Well, because it singles out those who most want to love Christ, those most loyal to the papacy, and penalises them for their fidelity and faithfulness. Pope Francis has enacted a Trad exclusion programme. It seems now, for the first time, even lay people have started to make public their disquiet at the injustice of the situation. And what better place than Chicago, where Bergoglio's (once) favourite (the signs are that this is no longer the case...Which is why he is not in Rome) and McCarrick protégé Blaise Cupich has been swift and draconian in forcing restrictions on any parish ...

Some more difficult news broke over the weekend for Traditional Catholics. Sorry it has taken me so long to get this post out; I still feel it is important to post it, for the record. Last Friday the bishop of Savannah, Georgia, posted a letter  updating instructions on the use of the 1962 missal in the diocese. Bishop Parkes wrote to the Congregation for Divine Worship (now the Dicastery for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments) in mid-April to request permissions for specific parish churches in his diocese. This weekend, Cardinal Blaise Cupich spoke at the March for Life rally in Chicago. He was heckled and booed and eventually led away by security. Catholics clearly have had enough. In the Holy Smoke podcast last week, seasoned UK journalist Damian Thompson analysed the Vatican's attempt to silence the USCCB criticism of newly elected President Joe Biden, which I first wrote about here . Extraordinary events last Wednesday when USCCB conference president Archbishop Jose Gomez, issued a statement which took uncompromising positions on abortion, gender, and religious liberty, warning that the Biden administration’s policy agenda would advance “moral evils” on several fronts, which was then spiked. Finally the torturous sex abuse summit in Rome has drawn to a close. Torturous because it has been so incredibly cringe-worthy to see the Cardinals and Bishops Pope Francis has chosen to lead this summit trot out errors, buzzwords and meaningless platitudes on a world stage. There's genuine surprise across the Catholic internet today as news breaks that the strongly pro-life Joseph Naumann, Archbishop of Kansas City, beat quasi-catholic Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, to be the next head of the U.S. bishops' pro-life efforts yesterday. The Catholic Herald  reports the story with the telling headline: The bishops voted for Archbishop Joseph Naumann over the cardinal, who is seen as a 'Pope Francis bishop'. This is because Cupich has been twice promoted by Pope Francis: to Archbishop of Chicago, and then to the College of Cardinals.
