On Saturday, Katherine and I attended the March4Life in London along with thousands of others.   Over the weekend the story broke that Father Frank Pavone, a well-known pro-life activist, was dismissed from the clerical state for “blasphemous communications on social media” and “persistent disobedience of the lawful instructions of his diocesan bishop,” Pavone is the National Director of Priests for Life (PFL) and serves as the chairman and Pastoral Director of its project Rachel's Vineyard . He also is the President of the National Pro-Life Religious Council , an umbrella group of various anti-abortion Christian denominations, and serves as Pastoral Director of the Silent No More campaign. The news came in a letter to U.S. bishops dated 13th December from Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the apostolic nuncio to the United States. Archbishop Pierre wrote that the prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy issued the decision on the 9th of November and included the unusual dimension that there was “no possibility of appeal.” It did not, however, provide any examples of the “blasp...

We all know the Papal Plane Game by now. It always seems to create a scandal but Francis doesn't care, or slow down. In the latest episode of Catholic Unscripted we look at the political turmoil which seems to be engulfing both the secular world and the Church at the moment. As a series of political machinations seem to be stealing democratic process away from the hands of the electorate in the UK, Pope Francis is appealing to Catholics and non-Catholics for feed back on what the Church should do. Is this a forced democracy? The engagement levels would seem to suggest that most Catholics aren't interested. Is the pope trying to change the way the Church works? Rather than being a deposit for Divine Revelation of truth, is the pope trying to change the Church into an organisation which moves in the direction dictated by secular culture? Our approach should always be to come to the revelation of God with humility, recognising our own short comings and prepared to change our lives. But now it seems the narrative is constantly that the Church needs to change to fit in with radical changes in society...

Babylon bee Founder Seth Dillon defending the pro-life position on Joe Rogan's Show. Its good to see coherent a pro-life defence represented in popular media; so often we get politicians offering incoherent policies. I honestly think that this is how we win the argument. The pro-abortion position is totally incoherent. On the March 4 Life I have found that the Pro-abortion activists screaming abuse at us never want to engage in discussion; they know their position makes no sense.  Ultimately, to advocate for abortion is to advocate for killing people. Finally, after much prompting, The Catholic Bishops have published something about the overturning of Roe vs Wade 4 days ago. Celebrities , politicians and the media have been decrying the ruling for days now and the bishops have said nothing. The reaction serves to demonstrate how woeful and inadequate their approach to this essential, pre-eminent issue of our times, continues to be. They love shouting about non-controversial issues like climate change and illegal immigrants, but always fail when it comes to the things they should be focused on. The Pope continues to act in increasingly problematic and distressing ways.  This weekend he met Nancy Pelosi at the Vatican. Pelosi, for my non-American readers, is the 81 year old Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, a role she has held since 2019. The speaker is the political and parliamentary leader of the House of Representatives and is simultaneously the House's presiding officer, de facto leader of the body's majority party, and the institution's administrative head. Speakers also perform various other administrative and procedural functions. Pelosi, like President Joe Biden, makes much of her "devout" Catholic faith. It's a useful way to curry favour with like-minded voters. Pelosi is an ardent promoter of the LGBT ideology, she supports contraception and, most vocally, promotes abortion claiming it is completely consistent with her claims to be a devout Catholic. In case you haven't heard yet Alabama has become the latest US state to move to restrict abortions by passing a bill to outlaw the procedure in almost all cases. The law includes a ban on abortion in cases of rape or incest. The mainstream media are reporting this in anything but an objective way and I for one never cease to be amazed at the way that questioning abortion's morality seems to be verboten in modern society. You may recall that, back in in 2016 Pope Francis praised Italian politico Emma Bonino as a “forgotten great” because of her work with refugees. This despite her abortion advocacy. In fact, between her abortion activism and being an abortionist herself, Bonino is directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of roughly six million Italian babies between 1968 and today. Today in the Guardian, a left-leaning news organisation in the UK, carries a piece on Bonino  which ends in a particularly disturbing way. In contrast to her fight with the Catholic church 40 years ago, Bonino can, these days, count on at least one ally: Pope Francis.
