Journeying through the depths of contemporary society, Father Paschal Uche and Mark Lambert engage in a riveting discourse exploring the intricacies of evangelization amidst a secular backdrop. Their dialogue unfurls a tapestry of insights, illuminating the pressing need for a revitalized commitment to the transformative essence of the Gospel. With candor and conviction, they delve into the labyrinthine challenges faced by the Church in its mission, grappling with the specters of apathy and ennui that often cloak congregations. Together, they unveil the urgency of authentic exemplars of sanctity, those luminous beacons igniting fervor and faith amid the prevailing shadows. Their exchange resounds with a clarion call to confront head-on the encroaching secularization of faith, championing Christ as the sovereign nucleus of the Church's sacred vocation. Through their discourse, a resounding refrain emerges: a clarion call to rekindle the flames of evangelization, to walk hand in hand...

Header snipped from The Telegraph on line. A bit more following on from yesterday's post as I have been thinking and praying about this a lot. First of all, I would say that this is thinking aloud and not a personal attack on Mr. McGuinness - God rest his soul & have mercy on him. However due to the particular nature of his office and life and the stances he took publicly on a number of issues, I feel this is worthy of further discussion. If only to tease out the socio-cultural challenges faced by the Church today in regard to these issues. The first issue is his terrorist/ freedom fighter legacy. Broadly it seems clear that all are capable of redemption if they acknowledge their sins and repent. This change - metanoia in the Greek of the Bible - is the principle of Christ's preaching and it conveys the power of the Gospel. It is the action which follows the word. The difference being Christian makes. I know that Mr. McGuinness did not public repent of his murderou...

"Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Ps 119:105 Welcome to this, the forty-sixth of my reflections on the theology of the Sunday readings at Mass. I have undertaken this project, regularly posting background information on the readings at Sunday Mass as part of my own prayer life. I have found it helps me to do a little study before I go to Mass about the readings, what the theme of the week is, how it follows on from the previous week's readings and what is being said. In sharing this, I hope to help you too get more from the Bible and Sunday Scripture readings. Perhaps it might give you confidence in the value and legitimacy of the Bible, or perhaps it might inspire you to pray the Divine Office or investigate the weekly readings for yourself. I see this as very clearly part of what the Church teaches about the Bible: This heaven-sent treasure Holy Church considers as the most precious source of doctrine on faith and morals. No wo...

My friend Marie-Claire has just told me about this wonderful initiative for the Year of Faith she is running in her parish. It's such a good idea I have already approached Fr. Kevin to see if we could perhaps do something similar in our own parish. I remember when we were studying Paul together, our lecturer suggested we should try and read the epistles from beginning to end, as this is how they were supposed to be read/ heard. Reading Galatians really changed my perspective on what the letter was all about, and so this seems like a really fabulous idea to me! Here are the details if you fancy attending: !EXCITING NEWS HEAR ALL ABOUT IT EXCITING NEWS HEAR ALL ABOUT IT EXCITING NEWS HEAR ALL! THE KENSINGTON ‘MARKATHON’ Have you ever wondered what it was like ... … to have experienced the full impact of Pentecost? …...

I absolutely love Scripture. I love books actually, but perhaps because I love books, and because I love to be challenged, I love Scripture. I think another reason for me particularly loving the Bible is that I didn't understand it for so long. I had to work hard at overcoming my misconceptions about what the Bible was, in order to really start to love it. In the end, when everyone else was writing dissertations on special moral theology, I wrote mine on Scripture. Obviously, spending five years studying theology will only serve to improve your understanding and love of Scripture, however I'm also aware that not everyone has that luxury. For this reason I have decided to try and help you all out a bit. I get quite frustrated at Mass, that quite often the ministers of the Word; the 'lay readers', don't appear to have any sense of what it is they are actually doing. Nor do they appear to have any sense of the drama, the majesty, the importance or the interconnected...
