Voris calls out hypocrisy of USCCB pointing out "problems" with Biden's policies

Image
This is a great Vortex. Last week I felt really disgusted to see the US Conference of Catholic Bishops come out and say that there were some problems with Joe Biden's policies. This follows close on the heals of their congratulating him for being a practising Catholic and their constant attacking of Trump and at least tacit support for Biden during the campaigning. This really is laughable - the bishops remain silent leading up to the election, rush to congratulate Biden before the results are finalised, and now express concern about his agenda? What a joke. https://t.co/0WuEM6DFdV — Mark (@sitsio) November 18, 2020 It's like now they think Biden is going to listen to them? Imagine if they had said all this before the election?!! Voris has got this so right!

US Elections: A Once in a Life Time Opportunity

Image
The atmosphere surrounding the USA elections is toxic, to say the least. This is probably largely driven by the truculent, brash personality of the present President who specialises in pushing buttons and saying what you don't want him to say. At the point of the last election, I felt that neither candidate should be able to stand for such an important office. Neither candidate seemed to me to have the credentials for such high office. Alas it seems the most important factor in the race for the Whitehouse is having the money to throw at the campaign and if you have the cash, nothing else matters. It seems throughout society and across the world the crisis we face is one of leadership. Whatever you think of Trump & Biden, this election does present Catholics with a clear choice. America has the chance to overturn Roe vs Wade here, make no bones about it. Whatever else is going on, Trump has the brass to facilitate this change. What cannot be argued is that he is the most pro-lif...

Cardinal Tagle, Migrants, Heresy and Trump

Image
Almost since the outset of this papacy Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has been the man seen by many as Francis' dauphin. I'm not sure if the email I have been sent is actually from him, or an incredibly ignorant minion, but it is truly shocking in its' lack of catholicity: From: Caritas Internationalis [ mailto:donations@caritas.va ]  Sent: 30 November 2017 15:28 To:  Subject: Christmas Message from Cardinal Tagle Dear Friends, The bells ring during Advent not just in celebration, but also to wake us up from our slumber.  As we await the birth of Jesus, we are called to open our eyes and hearts to the possibility of hope. We are reminded that God is with us on our life's journey and that we too are called to accompany others on theirs. Jesus was born in a stable outside Bethlehem, on the "wrong side of the tracks", as they say nowadays. The Holy Family was a family of migrants. There was no welcome for his pregnant mother and tired father. Th...

Pope, Plane, you know, the usual...

I'm not panicking about this, I think I'm getting the hang of it now. One think I know for sure is that leaders make mistakes, we shouldn't expect them to be perfect all the time, especially in unscripted interactions. I think the Pope gives us a lot to think about and meditate on in this latest interaction. Sure, it might initially seem a bit out of sync with 2,000 and odd years of Catholic thought, but that's because we often are completely prepared to accept/ expect/ think the worst. The press always want to couch anything he says in terms that say he is giving ground to the modern world, whereas the truth is that he is a loyal son of the Church. Pope Francis said some really interesting things about abuse in the Church and his meeting with the Russian Orthodox Patriarch. You can read a full transcript here . I'm interested in all the issues he spoke about and I do think they are important. The Orthodox thing particularly interests me, but I'm going to ...
