Modern Theological Opiates

Image
The trend to universalism is one that is increasingly noticeable among Christians today. I find friends often comment to me when a brother Catenian dies for example, that the consensus in circulated emails is that "he is in heaven now". Similarly, Bishop Alan Williams has said things like this when offering funeral masses for priests who have died. Social media is awash with people make ontologically crazy assertions about their dead relatives having gained their "angel wings". Purgatory is never mentioned. Their is no need to pray for our dead, it is game over and they are in heaven when they die - end of. You may be thinking this is impossible but it is regularly and openly preached in a next door parish to me in Rayleigh . The Bishop of Brentwood seems to be absolutely fine with this. I found it interesting that this move to Universalism - the idea of universal reconciliation – that all humans will eventually receive salvation -- is as prevalent today in evangeli

Love is Love. Or is it?

Image
It is great to see a video from Brian Holdsworth tackling the LGBTQI+ infiltration of Catholic schools. I have been trying to find a priest who would be willing to join me on camera for a discussion about this issue - no joy so far - and, when one considers the way Fr. Rosario was attacked by Bishop Philip Egan for speaking the truth on this issue you can see why they might be reticent! Brian puts together a gentle and intelligent summation of why LGBTQI+ ideology and Catholicism are not compatible. Basically it boils down to the fact that if you are a Catholic and you think "love is love" you're either ill informed or really stupid. Brian explains: "I want to close with a conversation about catholic schools embracing pride symbols if I can for a second because I've tried to argue that the catholic church has this long-standing tried and tested definition of love that is coherent universal and based on reason and when it comes to alternative theories that might b

Has Bishop Egan Lost it?

Image
Above: The Marian Franciscans at last year's March4Life where I last met them. Has Bishop Egan completely capitulated to progressivism? Is he under pressure to conform to the establishment? Is he trying to be "inclusive"? Is he in the running for Westminster, perhaps? I honestly never thought I would find myself concerned with the bishop of Portsmouth, Philip Egan. When discussing who Catholics can trust in the episcopacy, his name is always mentioned as a solid bishop. Egan, 67, has been bishop of Portsmouth diocese since 2012 and has long been considered a safe pair of hands by faithful Catholics. In a 2014 interview, he generated controversy for his views that MPs who voted for same-sex marriage should be banned from receiving communion . He also wrote to PM David Cameron regarding so called same sex marriage. He has a decent record of standing up for the faith, but something seems awry lately . For example, I hear whispers that there is a serious disregard for catec

Dr. Charlie O’Donnell - A Prayer Request

Image
I have had news that Dr. Charlie O’Donnell, a consultant in emergency and intensive care medicine and a really outstanding Catholic of the Diocese of Brentwood is very unwell. Please pray for Charlie and his family - if you could have a Mass said that would be even better!

A New Cardinal Pell Interview

Damian Thompson is in Rome and has secured an interview with Cardinal Pell. It is well worth a listen: As always, the Cardinal does a great job of clearly giving his opinion while being loyal and faithful to the Pope. On the Vatican/ China deal, Pell, the former Vatican Prefect for the Economy, states: 'I know high-up people in the Vatican are very dissatisfied with the way things are going,' The Cardinal uses this example to show how there is a lack of transparency in the Bergoglian Vatican: 'The agreement is there to try to get a bit of space for the Catholics. Obviously that's praiseworthy. [But] I don't think we've gained anything. The persecutions seem to be continuing. In some places they've got worse.' Nobody 'outside a small circle' knows the details of the agreement, 'which seems to me to be quite irregular.' Speaking on the weirdness of the synod, Pell remarks that there is a strange disconnect between Pope Francis' ow

What to do & what not to do - a tale of two Catholic bishops

Image
Well it's LGBTQI+ History month folks and the best place for LGBTQI+ advocates to push their queer agenda is in Catholic Schools (apparently). Some schools - the majority I suspect - happily embrace this political agenda being foisted on them, despite recent legislation to the contrary , the key point of which was to spell out schools' obligations "to be mindful of legal duties on political impartiality during these events and thoroughly assess both the organisations in question and any materials they provide.” Why? Well, as pointed out in a recent BBC special in depth investigation  Stonewall - the organisation which most prominently seeks to promote this agenda in Catholic Schools, is not impartial, but a lobby group who profit greatly from their own schemes. Stonewall's total income for the financial year ending 2019 was almost £8.5m. They are a powerful force. Nevertheless some Catholic schools proudly declare themselves Stonewall Schools. Despite the image pres

A Cardinal writes: “Roma loquitur. Confusio augetur.”

Vaticanista Sandro Magister has obtained some very interesting inside information from the Cardinals. He writes : "Since the beginning of Lent the cardinals who will elect the future pope have been passing this memorandum around. Its author, who goes by the name of Demos, “people” in Greek, is unknown, but shows himself a thorough master of the subject. It cannot be ruled out that he himself is a cardinal." This is the text with my comments : THE VATICAN TODAY Commentators of every school, if for different reasons, with the possible exception of Father Spadaro, SJ, agree that this pontificate is a disaster in many or most respects; a catastrophe. [that in itself is a sign of hope!] 1. The Successor of St. Peter is the rock on which the Church is built, a major source and cause of worldwide unity. Historically (St. Irenaeus), the Pope and the Church of Rome have a unique role in preserving the apostolic tradition, the rule of faith, in ensuring that the Churches continue to t

Protect the Little Ones from the Devil

This is a Homily by Fr. Rosario M. Ebanks preached on 06/03/2022. Look! A priest! They are real!! They do exist!! A priest actually preaching about the suffocating evil enveloping us today! An actual priest trying to change things, to shine Christ's light on the world, to confront the culture! Imagine if we had a few more like this - we would literally change the world. God bless him and keep him and please share this as far and wide as you can!

Zanchetta Update...

Image
Gustavo Zanchetta — remember him? Zanchetta was an associate of Francis before he was elected Pope in 2013: he was executive undersecretary of the Argentine episcopal conference which was headed by none other than Jorge Bergoglio (Pope Francis) himself. Now he is where he really belongs: behind bars!    Zanchetta was so close to the Pope that he was one of the very first Argentines whom Francis promoted to bishop, on his own initiative, bypassing all canonical procedure, on July 23, 2013, at the head of the diocese of Orán, in the north of the country. On July 29, 2017, Zanchetta suddenly disappeared, without any farewell Mass and without saying goodbye to his priests and faithful. He only made it known, from an unspecified location, that he had health problems that needed urgent care elsewhere and that he had just returned to Rome, where he had placed his mandate back in the hands of Pope Francis. Who very promptly, on August 1, accepted his resignation. Zanchetta was for a brief tim
