Catholic Unscripted Episode 6: The Church as Salt & Light

Image
In the latest episode of Catholic Unscripted we look at the political turmoil which seems to be engulfing both the secular world and the Church at the moment. As a series of political machinations seem to be stealing democratic process away from the hands of the electorate in the UK, Pope Francis is appealing to Catholics and non-Catholics for feed back on what the Church should do. Is this a forced democracy? The engagement levels would seem to suggest that most Catholics aren't interested. Is the pope trying to change the way the Church works? Rather than being a deposit for Divine Revelation of truth, is the pope trying to change the Church into an organisation which moves in the direction dictated by secular culture? Our approach should always be to come to the revelation of God with humility, recognising our own short comings and prepared to change our lives. But now it seems the narrative is constantly that the Church needs to change to fit in with radical changes in society...

The Scandalous Vatican

Image
Every week it seems a new scandal comes out of the Vatican, from financial mismanagement to controversial appointments to officials promoting heresy. What is a Catholic to do in the face of such corruption at the highest levels of the Church?

Pope Francis makes absurd appointment to PAL

Image
When Gavin, Katherine & I were discussing what we should bring to you on Catholic Unscripted this week, I felt there was more than a little push back to the idea of discussing the pope's latest appointment to the Pontifical Academy for Life. No one even knows about the Academy, I was told, and no one cares much about it. But I don't think the importance of this moment can easily be overlooked: Of all the scandals of this pontificate, the naming of the pro-abortion atheist to the Pontifical Academy for Life has caused more more scandalized comments than anything we’ve witnessed so far. Even non-Catholics have reached out to us in horror. It’s really unmasked Francis. — Rorate Caeli (@RorateCaeli) October 21, 2022 Indeed, this appointment has caused bishops to publicly raise eyebrows: Appointment of pro-abortion economist to Pontifical Academy for Life??? https://t.co/7I9OVIkSTh — Bishop Down Umber (@BishopUmbers) October 19, 2022  And clergy are speaking out: In an atte...

Catholic Unscripted 5: Graham Norton Promotes Abortion

Image
In this episode of Catholic Unscripted, we were contacted by a viewer to discuss the promotion of abortion on the Graham Norton chat show on BBC 1. We talk about the way abortion has become mainstream in the UK and ask why it's not more of a priority for our bishops (rather than climate change!). We also discuss Pope Francis' attempt to frame tradition as infidelity which I wrote about here .

Bishop Athanasius Schneider - Loyal Opposition

Image
Is Bishop Athanasius Schneider our Saint John Fisher? I'm not joking. If he isn't, he is one of a small number of faithful clergy prepared to stand up to the destruction of the Bergoglian pontificate. Perhaps we can add George Cardinal Pell to that list as well as those pictured above as he recently warned us against the "suicidal synod" . Bishop Scheider is amazing in his faith and consistency. He is knowledgeable and wise. He brings light, not heat and he has incredible courage, confidently pointing out the errors of Pope Francis to his face.  I found this interview extremely comforting, coming as it does at a time when the pope himself is persecuting Catholics precisely because he does not want them to adhere to what the Church has always taught. In other words, Francis unambiguously rejects the foundation of Faith and demands that everyone else does the same if they want to remain in the Church — it does not take a great theologian to recognise just how serious th...

Synod Extension- Drawing out the chaos

Image
So few Catholics engaged in Pope Francis' Synod consultation that he has decided to extend it for another year "to overcome resistance". It will be interesting to see how, having failed to engage Catholics so far, the pope will manage to do it in a further 12 months of, presumably, the same meaningless sophistry and inane babble which has become nothing short of a running joke. The quotations above (in parentheses) are taken from #PopeFrancis 's October 16 Sunday Angelus during which he explained his decision to have the Synod on Synodality assembly take place in Rome in two sessions, one in Oct 2023 & the other in 2024: https://t.co/NiUlob85Dd — Diane Montagna (@dianemontagna) October 17, 2022 What can possibly be gained by dragging this out for another year? After the former Prefect for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith labelled the initiative as "a hostile take over of the Church" a thing which "we must resist" (watch him sa...

In Francis' World ‘traditionalism’ is ‘infidelity’ to the Catholic Church and Vatican II

Image
Pope Francis has made his most direct attack yet on faithful Catholics in his homily during a Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica on October 10, marking the 60th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council. Using a passage from St. John’s Gospel – “Do you love me? Feed my sheep” – Francis launched his attack on traditional Catholics. Extraordinarily ironic, given he is directly responsible for the closure of Traditional Parishes like the Shrine of Christ the King in Chicago , thereby literally and directly starving his flock of the Sacraments. It is when Pope Francis uses Scripture to justify his outrages I feel most aggrieved.  In this homily, the pope said “we are always tempted to start from ourselves rather than from God, to put our own agendas before the Gospel,” he decried those who wished to “retrace our steps.” The pope consistently seems to miss the whole point of traditional Catholic worship which accentuates the transcendent nature of God. As he is always praising...

Catholic Unscripted: The Woke Agenda & Anglicans Crossing the Tiber

Image
In this episode we discuss the new Puritanism as exposed in the recent arrest of a mother of five over an allegation someone made that she had posted something on the internet that she didn't. When we fail to teach the truth and people have less and less idea of objective moral truth. We also discuss the growing trend of Anglicans swimming the Tiber and becoming Catholic. Is it far to say that the only thing that separates Anglo-Catholics from unity with Rome is a failure to embrace the moral obligations? What draws an evangelical Anglican like the former bishop of Rochester to come home to Rome?

An Admission of Guilt from Cardinal Beccui

Image
This , surely, is damning on Beccui the dodgy Cardinal sacked then reinstated by Pope Francis when he thought no one was looking: "Interpol had flagged a series of payments totaling some 575,000 euros to Marogna’s Slovenian-registered company, which had been spent primarily on luxury goods and hotels. According to the police investigator, Becciu offered to repay the funds from his personal account at the IOR, a Vatican bank, and asked them to keep the matter confidential because it would cause “serious harm” to the cardinal and his family." ... " Marogna, who is charged with embezzlement during the current Vatican trial, has not presented herself in court and successfully fought against extradition to the Vatican in 2021. She claims she worked for the Secretariat of State on sensitive diplomatic cases, like those of kidnapped clergy and religious, while also boasting of work as a kind of personal spy for Becciu, gathering dossiers of information on the private moral fail...

A Mother's Plea for Her Daughter

Image
This eloquent, heart-felt message was sent to me from a dear friend, and is posted at her request. Dear Friends, This is an appeal and an invitation to join together in spiritual warfare against the dreadful evil which is transgender ideology - a demonic infestation which is destroying thousands of young people. Our times have been marked by terrible evils and attacks against the family, in particular attacks against motherhood and womanhood. We are all familiar with the sad trajectory; the rise of feminism with its demands for sexual 'freedom' for women, easier divorce laws, the accepted use of artificial means of contraception, IVF, and the horror of abortion also up to birth. Thankfully, as we know, many pro-life groups and movements have arisen to combat these attacks both through word, action and prayer. We are all familiar with the hugely successful 40 Days for Life Campaigns and the prayer vigils which have been instrumental in the closure of many abortuaries. Prayer a...

Cardinal Müller and the Destruction of the Church

Image
On Thursday, October 6, Gerhard Cardinal Müller discussed the ongoing Synod on Synodality and other topics in a roughly 30-minute interview on EWTN’s The World Over with Raymond Arroyo.  The World Over and especially the Papal Posse have provided a truly invaluable source of reporting throughout the Franciscan Pontificate. The reporting there has proven to be a real reality check for papal tailgaters & sycophants that their cynical narrative is failing to touch anyone but those who hate the Church and want to destroy her. I have always found it comforting to know that I was not the only one who felt dismayed at the direction Pope Francis was taking on any number of issues. Just take the Pontifical Academy for Life, for example. Set up in 1994 to defend and promote the Church's teaching on life, on 18th November 2016, Pope Francis dismissed virtually everyone involved and appointed a new staff. Since then we have seen the Academy hijacked and transformed from a faithful evagel...

Ancient Heretics were open about what they denied:

Image
An outstanding homily which reveals the problematic ideology being pushed by Pope Francis & his lackeys in the synod process. Fr Leon Pereira, a Dominican, speaks clearly and hits the mark about the ridiculous synody synod of synodality synods: Transcript: Twenty-eighth Sunday of the Year. Fr Leon Pereira warns against an inauthentic kind of Christianity. In medieval art, the devil is anatomically challenged. He has no knees, because he does not want to kneel and adore God as he ought. And he has no genitals, because evil cannot give life or create—it can only deform a pre-existent thing. As a faithful Catholic, Tolkien follows this idea in his writings:  ‘The [devil] can only mock, it cannot make: not real new things of its own’ . Modern popular culture has been impacted powerfully by such things as Tolkien’s writings and Star Wars. It is unsurprising that writers and producers might be tempted to mine these sources for further tales and entertainment. In this we see ...

Catholics are resisting the Pope

Image
I found this discussion really useful over the weekend - if you watch and wonder what prompted it, it is this  - a press conference given by Michael Matt of the Remnant, John-Henry Westen of LifeSiteNews, and Eric Frankovitch of the CIC, after the CIC - the Catholic Identity Conference this year in Pittsburgh. In it, the three announce their intention to resist the Vatican/Globalist agenda and admonish Francis -- a Pope who is contemplating approving contraception, who has already approved public adulterers (divorced and remarried Catholics) receiving the Sacraments, who gave his papal blessing to worldwide lockdown, and who may well approve Catholic "gay" unions in 2023. For transcripts of each intervention, see RemnantNewspaper.com . Sammons and Flanders do really well here examining what faithful Catholics do in a situation where the Pope is not Catholic, because that is the situation we find ourselves in. A situation where, this week, the former head of the CDF said tha...

Synodal Dumpster Fire

Image
Incredulity at the diabolical Synod process grows. Odious sycophantic Cardinal Grech spouts banalities. "A correct reception of the Council's ecclesiology is activating such fruitful processes as to open up scenarios that not even the Council had imagined and in which the action of the Spirit that guides the Church is made manifest" @GrechMario at @unilateranense #synod pic.twitter.com/TZ6IqOktAt — Synod.va (@Synod_va) October 5, 2022 What "spirit" is he referring to because it doesn't seem to be the Holy Spirit! Is he seriously suggesting that the "fruit of the council" is to change the faith? I just can't believe Mario Grech - the notorious bully & abuse cover up artist from the tiny island of Gozo (where I usually holiday with my family) is now in charge of the tautologous utter disaster that is the synod on synodality. But at least shining a light on this moron shows the world how thick he is, and I'm not the only person who i...

What Happens When the Police Lose Moral Reasoning?

Image
Caroline Farrow is a friend of mine. We usually have a few pints together after March4Life . She is U.K. & Ireland Campaign Director at CitizenGO . She was recently arrested and taken to a cell in a police station because for a Twitter spat and offensive memes on the internet posted by a third party. Caroline did not post them but, even if she had posted them, posting offensive cartoons shouldn’t be illegal and certainly shouldn't warrant arrest! This is an interview about the incident she has given to GB News: Rod Liddle has also written up the incident in The Sun . He explains: "What you have done is refuse to concede that a man who transitions into a woman IS a woman. As a consequence the Old Bill are on your case. They are on the side of the trans activists who have been harassing you. You are not allowed to say stuff like that, even if it is palpably true. The Government just announced that in future every burglary will be investigated by police . It is incredibl...

Catholic Unscripted - Episode #2 Cardinal Zen's Abandonment & Italian Elections

Image
In this episode we discuss the election in Italy of a politician who is using Christian language to win broad support. Is this a con or is it something we can get behind? We also discuss the Vatican's horrendous treatment of Cardinal Zen. Please do like, comment and subscribe!

A Synod Designed to Push Lies

Image
On Instagram, thebasiccatholic has shared some very interesting information. So what we have here is an eye witness account of the reality of the Synod on Synodality. All the discussion from faithful Catholics leading up to this synod has been puzzling over why, given the clear and documented lack of faith and formation among the general Catholic population ( just of of many recent examples here ), Rome would seek to consult lay people and even non-Catholics ( see no. 6 here ) about the direction the Church should take. Revitalise it how? By walking away from Church teachings? We have seen that modelled in numerous Protestant denominations and we know the result is irrelevance and oblivion . It is widely recognised that the majority of baptised Catholics are not practising, and, of those that are practising, only a small minority are able to articulate their faith with any clarity. Given this reality, it seems a forgone conclusion what any survey will reveal: the lack of belief i...
